Forehand named PBC Player of the Week

AUGUSTA, Ga. – University of North Georgia softball player Hannah Forehand was named the Peach Belt Conference’s Player of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Forehand hit .588 with a 1.294 slugging percentage as the No. 5 Nighthawks went 6-0 over the weekend. The sophomore second baseman had four home runs with 10 RBI and scored eight runs. She went 3-for-3 in the second game against No. 22 Texas A&M Commerce with two home runs in the fourth inning alone, the second a three-run shot, driving in five. She had a homer and two more RBI in the opener against TAMU-Commerce and two more in the first game against Davis & Elkins with a home run. She also made no errors in 13 chances at second base and was 2-for-2 in stolen bases.
Forehand leads the PBC in home runs and is second in slugging percentage, fifth in runs scored, tied for seventh in RBI and is tied for the league lead in fielding percentage.
The Nighthawks will be back in action this weekend at Lander, taking on USC Beaufort and Chowan twice over the two day event.
Kaleb Freeman named PBC Player of the Week

AUGUSTA, Ga. – University of North Georgia baseball player Kaleb Freeman was named the Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Week Tuesday.
Freeman began his collegiate career by hitting .400 against No. 16 Lee as the Nighthawks took two of three games. The catcher/DH from Flowery Branch, Georgia, went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs in his first career game. He was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk in game two and 1-for-4 with another double and an RBI in game three.
Freeman is tied for the conference lead in doubles and is also ranked in the PBC top 10 in batting average, slugging percentage and RBI.
The Nighthawks will be back on the field Friday afternoon to open a three-game series with Mars Hill. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.

Conway named PBC Freshman of the Week

AUGUSTA, Ga. – University of North Georgia baseball player Tim Conway was named the Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday morning.
Conway began his collegiate career by hitting .417 with five RBIs in a three-game sweep of Auburn-Montgomery. The outfielder from Decatur, Georgia, collected hits in all three games, going 3-for-4 with a triple in the finale. He collected three RBI in the opener and added one each in the second and third games, finishing the series with a 1.171 OPS and six runs scored. He is tied for fourth in the PBC in RBIs, second in runs scored and 10th in on-base percentage.
The Nighthawks open Peach Belt Conference play this weekend when they take on Claflin at Bob Stein Stadium at Cottrell Park. First pitch Friday in the series opener is set for 4 p.m.

TeamFYNSports Writer’s Player of the Week- Drew Allison, No. 17

Drew Allison came off of an injury ready to play Friday night against Fannin County. He was responsible for the majority of the carries for the Indians, and picked up yards and first downs.
Drew has also played on both sides of the ball throughout the season. He started out on defense as a safety, but transitioned into a more of a running back role. This change proves he is willing to step up and go where needed.

TeamFYNSports Writer’s Player of the Week- Tucker Kirk, No. 7

Congratulations to QB1 of the Lumpkin County Indians- Tucker Kirk! He is the Player of the Week for the last game of the 2019 season!
Tucker completed passes to gain yards all throughout the game against East Hall. Many of these passes were also for first downs. He proved his ability to run the ball as well with carries to gain yards.
Tucker was also responsible for several of the scores during the game with one passing touchdown and two rushing. After the scores he completed passes for two point conversions.

TeamFYNSports Writer’s Player of the Week- Tucker Kirk, No. 7

Tucker Kirk is the starting quarterback for the Lumpkin County Indians, and he displayed his abilities in this role during the game against Cherokee Bluff.
Indians fans got to see more of the passing game they’d heard about- Kirk completed eight passes out of 11 attempts. One of those was an early 13 yard touchdown to Brian Cunane. Kirk also showed his rushing skills, keeping numerous times throughout the night for a total of 64 yards.
Undoubtedly Kirk is also a leader on the field, as he can be spotted communicating plays with coaches on the sidelines before doing the same for his teammates on the field.

TeamFYNSports Writer’s Player of the Week- Noah Adams, No. 34

Noah Adams stepped up for his Lumpkin County team in a tough game against North Hall.
Noah made at least three solo tackles throughout the night. One of those tackles was a sack for a loss of five yards against the Trojans. Another was to prevent any gain of yards. He also blocked an extra point attempt, which prevented North Hall from breaking the 60-point mark.

TeamFYNSports Writer’s Player of the Week- Brian Cunane, no. 23

Brian Cunane is this week’s TeamFYNSports Writer’s Player of the Week for the Lumpkin County Indians! Although Brian typically plays in a receiver/safety role, this week he played a key part as the punter.
Many of Brian’s punt returns forced Dawson County to start their next drive from deep in their own territory. This position gave the Indians more opportunity to put a stop to the Tigers’ drives.
Even though Dawson County ended up winning, Brian’s role as the punter helped his fellow teammates on defense. Brian even made two solo tackles. Congratulations to Brian Cunane- this week’s TeamFYNSports Writer’s Player of the Week!
TeamFYNSports Writer’s Player of the Week- BoJack Dowdy, no. 35

Congratulations to week 4 TeamFYNSports Writer’s Player of the Week for the Lumpkin County Indians– runningback BoJack Dowdy!
BoJack played a huge role in the Indians first season win on Friday night. He ran for 166 yards over 22 carries and scored three of the four touchdowns for the Indians. After the game he was all smiles as he celebrated with his teammates and family.

TeamFYNSports Writer’s Player of the Week- Aaron Hopkins #85

Team FYN Sports is excited to announce the first Player of the Week for the Lumpkin County Indians- tight end/defensive end Aaron Hopkins! Hopkins is an exceptional athlete who stood out on the field Friday night in the Lumpkin season opener against East Jackson.
Hopkins sacked the East Jackson quarterback twice during their first possession for a total loss of 19 yards. This loss of yardage forced East Jackson to punt on fourth down. After one of Hopkins’s teammates blocked the punt, Hopkins recovered the ball in the endzone for Lumpkin County’s first touchdown of the night. Hopkins also made several other great tackles throughout the game to help push the Eagles back.
Hopkins is an example of an athlete who is passionate about his sport. Over the summer he attended multiple football camps at colleges across the country including University of Pennsylvania, Yale and Harvard. As a senior also focused on graduation, he has received five scholarship offers. He is a scholar athlete with a GPA of 3.9. Congratulations to Aaron for being selected as the first Team FYN Sports Player of the Week for the Lumpkin County Indians!
TeamFYNSports Writer’s Player of the Week- Ethan Kline no. 16

Congratulations go out to Ethan Kline, no. 16 for the Lumpkin County Indians, for being named this week’s TeamFYNSports Writer’s Player of the Week!
Ethan played a key role in the Indians’ game against Jackson County on Friday night. He made multiple great tackles throughout the second half that prevented the Panthers from being able to score any more points. Ethan was one of the top few on the team for most tackles throughout the night.

TeamFYNSports Writer’s Player of the Week-Jason Chamblee, no. 51

In a tough game against the White County Warriors on Friday night, Jason Chamblee played a key role on defense. Jason helped to prevent the Warriors from scoring any more touchdowns late into the game. The Warriors were ahead 38-0 in the third quarter, and in scoring position again on the two yard line. Chamblee helped to prevent the Warriors from moving any further- during the next play the Warriors were pushed back two yards to the four yard line.
Head coach Caleb Sorrells said of Jason, “He has been more of a LB/RB type in the past, and when we asked him to play OL/DL, he didn’t even blink. He’s poured himself into that role w/o a single complaint and has emerged as a key component of our trench warriors on both sides of the ball.”
