Mr. Danny Ray Edwards, age 65, of Dahlonega passed away Thursday, October 10, 2019.

Mr. Edwards was born in Cumming, GA on August 11, 1954.  He was preceded in death by his father Homer Ray Edwards, uncles and aunts Nellie Fay Edwards, Clellan and Hershel Crow, Ethel Lou and Johnny P. Jones, Annie Kate and Allen Wigley, George Edwards, John L. Edwards; brother-in-law F.M. Beck .  Danny was a truck driver and loved his job.  Many of his friends will forever remember his CB handle “Getty Up Go”.  His favorite pastime was watching a good NASCAR race on TV.  Danny was affectionately called “Papa Danny” by his grandchildren.

Survivors include his daughters Cindy and Daniel Ayers, Dahlonega, and Kristi and Louis Smith, Madison; mother Aldona “Chris” Edwards, Murrayville; sister Barbara Black, Murrayville; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; uncles and aunts Corene and James Jones, Robert and Gladys Edwards, Jean Beck, Alma Edwards; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 PM Sunday, October 13, 2019 at the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home.  The Rev. Phil Gilstrap and the Rev. Jerry Abercrombie will officiate.  Interment will follow in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home.

MSgt Richard “Dick” Russell Hardy, age 87, of Dahlonega passed away Sunday, August 25, 2019.

MSgt Hardy was born in Habersham County on June 19, 1932 to the late Charles Broadus “C.B.” and Callie Allman Hardy.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings Pauline Hardy, Inez Yates, Doris Snyder, Geraldine Justice, Charles Hardy and Barbara McDonald.

MSgt Hardy served his country for 21 years and retired honorably from the United States Air Force.  His service to his country spans from Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX to the country of Japan.  After basic training, he came back home to marry the love of his life Millie Jean Stancil.    MSgt Hardy’s service then took him to the Naval Air Station in Hutchinson, KS,  Keflavik, Iceland, Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, AL, Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, AK, Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, TX, Wakkanai Air Force Base in Japan, again in Elmendorf, Anchorage, AK, and Patrick Air Force Base in Satellite Beach, FL.  MSgt Hardy finished his service to his country then continued his education at North Georgia Technical School and got a degree in small engine and automotive repair.

MSgt Hardy was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Clarkesville, GA.  His favorite pastimes were being a Go-Kart mechanic, feeding his catfish in his pond, and watching NASCAR Races.  MSgt Hardy was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His grandchildren affectionately called him “papa”.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years Mildred “Millie” Hardy; daughters and sons-in-law Angie and Wayne Gaddis, and Cassie and Bill Martin; grandchildren Derrick and Timber Gaddis, Evan Tate and Kelley Gaddis, and Russ Gaddis; great-grandchildren Xander Gaddis, Zach Gaddis, Dallas Gaddis, Kindal Whitlock, and Kinleigh Whitlock; sister Marilyn Hardy Brannon, Jonesboro; brother William M. Hardy, Mobile, AL.

MSgt Hardy’s wishes were to be cremated and a private memorial service will be held at a later time.

Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home of Dahlonega

Mr. Walter Donald Anderson, age 78, of Dahlonega passed away Monday, August 12, 2019.

Mr. Anderson was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County.  He was born on November 26, 1940 to the late Elmer Carl and Willie Mae Early Anderson.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughters Donna Butler and Rhonda Stephenson; his sister Brenda Grizzle; and his brother Heyward Anderson.

Mr. Anderson retired as a truck driver and he was a member of Cavender Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include his grandchildren Jonathan and Danielle Butler, Jade and Will Gates, Adam and Holly Ray, and Reanna and Dillion Brown; great-grandchildren Jase Butler, Kade Butler, Beau Butler, Kayton Gates, and Mason Ray; brothers and sisters-in-law Tony and Susan Anderson, Melvin and Deborah Anderson, and Dudley and Suzanne Anderson; sister-in-law Joyce Anderson; brother-in-law Tracy Grizzle; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home.  The Rev. Stephen Adams will officiate.  Interment will follow in Cavender Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the funeral hour Wednesday at the funeral home.

Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home of Dahlonega

Aligene Abercrombie Costello passed away August 4, 2019 in Atlanta, GA.  She was born in Dahlonega, GA on January 19, 1930 to T.E. Abercrombie and Ruby Martin.

Aligene graduated from North Georgia College having begun her studies there at the age of 16.  Upon graduating, she went to Atlanta and began a long career with First National Bank of Atlanta, (later Wachovia Bank).  She married Thomas Costello and they had one child, Sara Ann Costello.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 3773 Chamblee Tucker Road, Atlanta, GA 30341 with Father Patrick Kingery officiating.  Mass will begin at 11:00 AM.  This will be followed by a memorial service at Dahlonega Baptist Church at 2:00 PM.  Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Dahlonega.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Abercrombie, her husband, Thomas Costello, and her daughter Sara Ann Costello.  She is survived by nieces and nephews and an abundance of friends.  Though Jean had lost all of her immediate family, she was surrounded by friends from near and far.  She will be missed dearly by those who loved her, though she is now reunited with all the family who have gone on before her.  Rest in Peace and God’s speed, Mama Jean.
