Dahlonega man faces multiple drug charges

LUMPKIN COUNTY, Ga. — Jacob Waltzer,27, of Dahlonega faces multiple drug charges as well as well as theft by taking, fleeing, attempting to elude officers, and escape after he led Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office deputies on a chase through city streets and the University of North Georgia campus on Nov. 23.
According to the incident report, Deputy Corey Bailey spotted a black pickup truck with no license plate on North Grove Street and attempted a traffic stop. The driver refused to stop and eventually turned into the UNG campus at a high rate of speed.
The deputy said he observed pedestrians on both sidewalks running to get out of the way. The chase led back onto Morrison Moore Parkway then onto Auraria Road where the driver struck an embankment and came to a stop.
Waltzer was taken into custody but while deputies were searching the vehicle, he disappeared. A UNG reported seeing him on Morrison Moore and he was taken into custody a second time and transported to the Lumpkin County Detention Center.

Lumpkin County woman leads deputies on high-speed chase in three counties

LUMPKIN COUNTY, Ga. – A 38-year-old Lumpkin County woman has been charged with five counts of aggravated assault, fleeing and attempting to elude and reckless driving after she led deputies on a wild three-county chase at speeds reaching 93 mph and rammed two patrol cars before being arrested in Hall County.
On Nov. 24, Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Nicholas Weathington spotted a GMC pickup truck driving on Hwy. 115 with no taillights and flashing hazard lights. The deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver, Carrie Michelle Stephens, continued driving toward White County turning onto side streets and eventually heading back toward Lumpkin County on Hwy. 115 in the wrong lane. At the roundabout at the intersection of Hwy 52, Stephens headed toward Hall County on Hwy. 52.
According to the report, Stephens then turned onto Clark Road in Hall County. The road ended in a cul de sac where she turned around, rammed two patrol cars and sped away. The chase continued to the intersection of Will Wheeler Road and Browning Road where Stephens drove through a yard and struck a pump house before striking one of the chase vehicles a second time.
At that point, deputies were able to order Stephens and a passenger, Christopher Chestnut from the vehicle and place them in handcuffs. Christopher was detained but was not charged and was released.
Stephens had a bench warrant out for her arrest for violation of probation after being charged earlier with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

Dahlonega residents charged with auto theft

LUMPKIN COUNTY, Ga. — On Nov. 6, officers with the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office went to a residence on Oak Grove Road to serve warrants on William Johnson and Sedaria Norris in connection with the theft of an automobile in September off Hwy 52 West. Norris attempted to flee but was taken into custody. Johnson fled on foot.
He was arrested five days later in a traffic stop on Cavendar Creek Road.
Johnson,34, of Dahlonega has been charged with auto theft and obstruction of officers. Norris, 37, has been charged with theft and Cindy Omalley 47, has been charged with obstruction of officers.

Christmas With Santa canceled due to COVID but other programs continue

LUMPKIN COUNTY, Ga. — Sheriff Stacy Jarrard announced Monday the annual program Breakfast with Santa has been canceled due to the risk from COVID-19.
“It saddens me to do that for the kids in our community,” he said. “We really enoy doing that each year but I just feel we need to be safe and to do everything we can to protect the kids.”
Jarrard said if anything changes with Breakfast with Santa, he will inform the public in advance.
The Sheriff’s Office still offers many opportunities for Lumpkin Countians to brighten the Christmas for those less fortunate.
“We still have our bicycle program,” Jarrard said. If you have a gently used bicycle or would like to purchase a new bicycle for kids, just drop it off as the Sheriff’s Office. “We already have a lot of requests,” he added.
The Shop With a Cop will continue this year, although the date is yet to be determined and the Sheriff’s Office lobby will serve as a drop off point for the Toys for Tots program.
For those so inclined, there are many opportunities to make sure no child is forgotten at Christmas time.

Traffic stop yields heroin, syringes, methamphetamine

LUMPKIN COUNTY, Ga. — What started as a routine traffic stop on Burnt Stand Road resulted in the confiscation of two syringes, a small quantity of heroin and a small bag of methamphetamine last week.
According to the incident report, Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Deputy Blake Sargent was traveling toward Hwy. 400 on Burnt Stand Road when an oncoming vehicle crossed into his lane then swerved back into its lane. The deputy made a u-turn then followed the vehicle into a neighborhood off Burnt Stand Rd.
The vehicle came to a stop near a cul-de-sac and the driver Benjamin Charles Jones, 39, exited the vehicle and began to walk toward Sargent’s patrol car. Lumpkin County dispatch advised the deputy the vehicle tag and Jones’ driver’s license were expired.
The vehicle was impounded and during a search, Sargent observed a syringe loaded with a brown liquid consistent with heroin, a backpack that contained a syringe and a clear plastic bag, with more of the brown liquid. As he was being taken into custody, a blue plastic bag with a substance that appeared to be methamphetamine fell off Jones person.
Jones was handcuffed and transported to Lumpkin County Detention Center.

Many roads closed in Lumpkin County due to fallen trees and power lines

LUMPKIN COUNTY, Ga. — Lumpkin County Sheriff Stacy Jarrard reported the following this morning at approximately 6:45 a.m.: “We have roads, state and county, that are completely impassable due to trees and wires down. We are unable to update the exact streets due to the number of closures. Please avoid the roads while the storm passes so that emergency personnel can work the roadways. Always assume that any wire down on the roadway is live and to avoid the area.
South Chestatee was closed down at approximately 7:15 a.m. in the area of Pizza Hut. Long Branch Road is closed due to many trees and wires down. Slow down and avoid the area while emergency personnel are on the scene.

Dahlonega man charged with aggravated assault and battery

LUMPKIN COUNTY, Ga. — A Dahlonega man was charged with aggravated assault and battery on his sister, following an altercation Oct. 14 at their mother’s home on Brookwoods Lane.
Matthew Richard Wylie said the altercation began when Lisa Marie Wylie began screaming at their mother and he interviened. Ms Wylie said her brother slammed her into a kitchen table three times and began to strangle her until she bit him.
According to the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office incident report, Ms. Wylie had scratches on her arms and legs. Matthew Wylie was handcuffed and transported to the Lumpkin County Sherriff’s Office.

Dahlonega woman helps inmates smuggle drugs into Detention Center

LUMPKIN COUNTY, Ga — On Sept. 8, the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office learned of contraband being brought into the Lumpkin County Detention Center. Once this information was learned, Investigators started an investigation into the Contraband. During this investigation it was determined that Methamphetamine had made its way across the Guard Line and into the Lumpkin County Detention Center Housing area.
On Sept 29, the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the Georgia Department of Community Supervision, continued the investigation through searches, drug screens, reviews of recorded phone calls, video chats, surveillance camera footage, and interviews of inmates within the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center. The results of this portion of the investigation led to the determination that a female by the name of Kimberly Biggs was bringing methamphetamine to various locations so that it could be brought into the Lumpkin County Detention Center by inmates on work detail.
On Sept. 30, to further the investigation the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at the known residence of Kimberly Biggs, 108 Summerour Road. During this search warrant methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia was located. Also, the investigators seized Kimberly Biggs cell phone and executed a search warrant on it.
On Oct. 1, the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, and GBI Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO) conducted two more search warrants one in Lumpkin County and one in Hall County. Through this investigation it was determined that these two locations were linked to Calvin J Turner, who is known as being a drug supplier to Kimberly Biggs.
During the investigation into the inmates in the Lumpkin County Detention Center obtaining Contraband and the later execution of the two search warrants multiple people were arrested. These arrest with booking photos and charges are attached below by each individual location:
Dahlonega man charged with sexual battery

LUMPKIN COUNTY, Ga. — Michael Alan Noble, 53, of Dahlonega was arrested on Sept. 22 and charged with the sexual battery of a juvenile female.
According to the incident report, Lumpkin County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a Gooch Road residence at 6:59 p.m. in response to a sexual abuse incident. The juvenile told deputies she went downstairs to the attached apartment where Noble lives and that he began touching her in an inappropriate manner.
Deputies questioned Noble, who appeared to have been drinking, about the incident and he admitted to touching the girl but that he did not know she was underage.
Noble was then handcuffed and taken to the Lumpkin County Detention Center.

Dahlonega woman charged with aggravated assault

LUMPKIN COUNTY, Ga. — A 30-year-old Daholenega woman was arrested last week on charges that she assaulted her mother at a residnce on Hwy. 52 in Lumpkin County.
Tiffany Dunagan is charged with aggravated assault, battery-family violence and cruelty to children.
According the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office incident report, Dunagan punched her mother, Juli Dunagan, in the face twice and slapped one of the juveniles present in the face before fleeing the residence
Juli Dunagan told authorities she believed her daughter was under the influence of alcohol or possibly methamphetamine.
Dunagan was arrested at the Adam Circle Apartments in Lumpkin County.

Sheriff’s Gun Show set Oct. 11-12

LUMPKIN COUNTY, Ga. — Lumpkin County Sheriff Stacy Jarrard announced recently the 7th Annual Sheriff’s Gun Show will be held on Sat Oct. 11 and Sun. Oct. 12 at StruXure Outdoor, 154 Ethan Allen Drive.
Operating hours are Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Guns, ammunition and accessories will be on sale to benefit the Georgia Sheriff’s Association Youth Homes. Jarrard said this year, proceeds from the sale will also benefit D.A.R.E. and the Dahlonega Lions Club purchase of a vision machine.
“Come see us Oct. 10 and 11,” Jarrard said. “There will be a lot of firearms there and a lot of vendors. We look forward to seeing you.”
Lumpkin County man charged with burglary

LUMPKIN COUNTY, Ga. — Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Ryan Williams, 36 of Dahlonega on Aug. 21 and charged him with the theft of dozens of tools and lawn equipment from a residence on Rancho Del Oro Court.
According to the incident report, the homeowner spotted a suspicious person driving a four-wheeler around the residence at approximately 5:30 a.m. and called 911. When officers responded, they spotted Williams driving a lawn mower on Mt. Olive Church Road. The homeowner stated the items on the lawnmower and dozens of items was stolen from his barn.
While waiting for the homeowner to identify the items, Williams fled the scene on foot. Deputies gave chase, but lost him in the nearby woods. He was arrested three days later at his home on Jess Grizzle Road.
Items identified as stolen, include a lawn mower, two mitre saws, two nail guns, a trailer, two routers, a table saw and dozens of smaller tools. Most of the items were stolen from the barn, but several items appeared to have been stolen from an unoccupied and secured house where entry was made via a broken window in the basement.
Williams has been charged with second degree burglary, forced entry burglary, entering an auto and obstruction of officers.

S.C. man charged with possession of heroin

LUMPKIN COUNTY, Ga. — A man found sleeping in a truck on Hwy. 52 in Dahlonega was arrested Aug. 17 for possession of heroin, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a crime, theft by receiving and giving a false name to officers.
According to the incident report, Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office deputies discovered Micah Joseph Wales,28, in the driver’s seat with the motor running. He identified himself as Jordan Wales but later admitted that was not his name.
He told deputies he had a firearm inside the truck and gave permission for them to retrieve it. The Glock handgun was inside a red bag that also contained a scale what appeared to have heroin residue on it and a small plastic wrapper that contained a substance consistent with heroin.
A check of the serial number on the Glock indicated the weapon had been stolen in South Carolina.
Wales was handcuffed and transported to the Lumpkin County Detention Center.
Deputy’s suspicion leads to arrest of suspected mail thief

Lumpkin County, Ga. – An alert off-duty Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office deputy’s suspicion about a male lurking around a residential mailbox on Grindle Bridge Road early Sunday morning led to the recovery of hundreds of pieces of stolen mail.
Sheriff Stacy Jarrard said the officer was not aware of the stolen mail at the time, but placed a BOLO (be on the lookout) for the man’s vehicle. Shortly thereafter, calls began coming into the sheriff’s office about stolen mail.
A Helen Police Department officer spotted the vehicle and attempted to make a stop, but the driver, Kristopher Beasley, 26 of Clarkesville, refused to stop. Beasley eventually abandoned the vehicle and led the officer on a foot chase before being captured.
Beasley is currently in the White County Detention Center where he is charged with drug possession. He is scheduled to be returned to Lumpkin County to face charges related to the mail theft.
“Just what we’ve gone through so far, there is more than 160 victims from Lumpkin, White, Habersham, Hall and Union counties,” Jarrard said Tuesday.

Massive mail theft discovered in North Georgia

LUMPKIN COUNTY, Ga. — According to a Facbook post from the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office, thousands of pieces of stolen mail have now been recovered.
Sheriff Stacy Jarrard said the theft spanned over five counties in North Georgia.
The Sheriff thanked those whose work led to the discovery of the missing mail. “Nice work to all the deputies and investigators involved with the solving of a huge mail theft case,” he said.
Jarrard added that the victims of the mail theft will be contacted shortly.
