Mr. Frankie G. Brackett, age 72, of Dahlonega passed away Friday, April 6, 2018.
Mr. Brackett was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. He was born on November 6, 1945 to the late Barney and Isabelle Whelchel Brackett. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Peggy Brackett and brothers Marvin Brackett and Ronnie Brackett. Mr. Brackett was a hard working husband and father who did what it took to provide for his family. He worked at The All Night Station, The Standard Station, and The Gulf Station. July 7, 2001 was declared Frankie G. Brackett Day by Lumpkin County officials. This honor was given because of Frankie’s faithful love and dedication as a volunteer at Gold City Nursing Home. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church No. 1.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to Robin Ray for her excellent care for Mr. Brackett.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years Kathy Louise Riddle Brackett, Dahlonega; daughter and son in law Frances and Ronald Whitehead, Dahlonega; sister Sue B. Hames, Tucker; grandchildren Ashleigh Nicole Burrow; Joseph Burrow Brittney Whitehead; Michael Whitehead; and great granddaughter Katelyn Whitehead.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Monday, April 9, 2018 in the chapel of Banister Funeral Home. The Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 9:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.

Walter Gary Ravan: Obituary
Obituaries April 13, 2018
Walter Gary Ravan, age 72, of Dahlonega passed away on March 24, 2018 following an extended illness. Gary was a long time resident of Lumpkin County.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents Jim and Nannie Ravan, brothers, Clyde, Oscar, Earl, Morris and Bobby, and sisters Carrie and Betty.
Gary is survived by daughter Wendy Simmons of Gainesville and daughter and son-in-law Kelly and Kevin Boortz of Springdale, Arkansas, six grandchildren: Graham Simmons and wife Hayden, Victoria and Olivia Simmons and Candler, Gracie and Mattie Boortz, sister Frances Rider of Cleveland and sister and brother-in-law Marjorie, Bobby Canup of Sautee, and dear friends Tony (Shug) Hawkins and Oscar Buchanan. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Niece Kretrena Rider Stancil was his childhood friend and a loving caregiver during his illness. Monica Walker was a friend to him and assisted Kretrena with his care; we will be forever grateful.
Walter Gary Ravan was born on November 24, 1945 in Dahlonega, Georgia to Jim and Nannie Ravan. He served his country in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1974. He was a truck driver and later owned a trucking company.
His hobby was riding his Harley and had many friends who shared his passion. He also made many friendships with Veterans through the years.
Visitation will be held at Alexander’s Cleveland Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 27 from 2 P.M. – 7 P.M. The funeral service will follow the visitation, starting a 7 P.M. in the Chapel of Cleveland Funeral Home with Rev. Lyman Caldwell officiating. Interment will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.

Mr. James Alan Mitchell, age 82, of Dahlonega passed away Monday, March 26, 2018.
Mr. Mitchell was born in Harrison, OH on March 4, 1936. He was preceeded in death by his mother Esther Mitchell and daughter Debra Dru Mitchell Heaton. Mr. Mitchell served his country honorably with a full career in the communications field in the United States Air Force.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years Jonell Mitchell, Dahlonega; son Harold Gene Mitchell, Panama City, FL; sister Arlene; and several other relatives.
A time of remembrance for Mr. Mitchell is scheduled for 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM Friday, March 30, 2018 at the Funeral Home.

Mr. Ricky Eugene Moses, age 55, of Dahlonega passed away Sunday, March 25, 2018.
Ricky was born in Atlanta, GA on December 20, 1962. He had lived most of his life in Dahlonega. Ricky is preceded in death by his father Richard “Dickie” Moses, sister Gail Moses, paternal grandparents Papa and Grandma Moses, maternal grandparents Walter and Dora Bell Caldwell, and aunts Joyce Caldwell and Bertie Mae Manley. He worked for General Motors for almost 30 years. During his years of work at General Motors Ricky had lived in Missouri, Texas, and Kentucky.
Ricky will be so deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. A loving and giving son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend who always made you smile and laugh whenever you were around him. Ricky truly loved helping anyone that he could and it brought him so much joy to do so. He was deeply loved by his family and his loving spirit will always be with us until we see him again.

Robert Granville “Bob” Layne: Obituary
Obituaries March 21, 2018
Robert Granville “Bob” Layne passed away peacefully on March 8, 2018. He was born March 3, 1928 in Flat River, Missouri to Beatrice Stephens Layne and John Granville Layne, who predeceased him. His family moved to St. Louis in 1936, during the Great Depression when his father found employment there. He attended public schools, graduating Roosevelt High School in January, 1946. While At Roosevelt HS, he was a member of the Football and Track teams, and he was an All City League and All District Tackle on the 1945 City League and District Championship Football Team. He enrolled at St. Louis University that January on a Football scholarship, but he turned 18 on March 3, and was drafted on April 8 in the last call up in Eastern Missouri under the World War II Selective Service Act.
Bob served in the U.S. Army of Occupation in Seoul, Korea as an Athletic Instructor with the 27th Special Service Company, 24th Corps Headquarters. After separation from the Army, he attended and graduated Culver-Stockton College, Canton, MO in January, 1950. While at CS he was a member of the 1947 & ’48 Football teams, and he was a founding member of Beta Sigma Gamma Fraternity, which later became a local chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon.
Upon graduation he entered the Property and Casualty insurance business and over the next 38 years served primarily in Branch and Regional management positions with Continental Casualty Co. and Great American Insurance Co. in Pittsburg, Dallas, Kansas City, Nashville and Cincinnati. He retired early in January, 1998 to spend more time on golf and travel. He was a long time member of Northwest Georgia Senior Ass’n., a founding member of Chattahoochee Men’s Golf Ass’n and of American Legion Paul E. Bolding Post 7. He was of the Presbyterian faith.
He is survived by the love of his life and best friend and wife of 61 years, Brenda Kopf Layne, Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law, Howard Granville and Amanda Brown Layne, Fernandina Beach, FL; brother and sister-in-law, Jack R. and Jean Layne, Panama City, FL; nephew, Dr. J. Randal Layne, Rochester, PA, and his little buddy, Frisky, the Wire-Haired “Terrorist”. Brenda and Bob met on a blind date in August, 1955, were engaged in November and married at Lakeshore Presbyterian church on April 21, 1956. During retirement, they visited the U.K. 17 times on Holiday.

Mrs. Mary Pruitt, age 83, of Dahlonega passed away Sunday, September 29, 2019.
Mrs. Pruitt was born in Dawson County on June 16, 1936 to the late William “Bill” and Lucille Reed Jarrard. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years Loy Pruitt, brother Ralph Jarrard, and sisters Thelma Boulineau and Rachel Adkins. Mrs. Pruitt enjoyed gardening and loved to sing gospel songs. During Gold Rush Days of 2016, she was voted Mrs. Gold City Nursing Home.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-laws Lori and Harry Palmer, York, SC, and Sharon and Lowell Walker, Dahlonega; grandsons Justin Palmer and Clay (Kelsey) Head; great-grandson Brayden Head; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Robert Albert Neu: Obituary
Obituaries September 29, 2019
Mr. Robert Albert Neu, age 71, of Dahlonega passed away Friday, September 27, 2019.
Mr. Neu was born in Wiesbaiden, Germany on March 11, 1948 to the late Sylvester and Inge Neu. He was a proud veteran serving in the United States Marine Corp. Mr. Neu was a master plumber by trade and a member of Concord Baptist Church. He loved the outdoors and spending time with his beloved grandchildren.
Mr. Neu had a passion for wrestling and a goal to teach children everywhere the discipline and strength that comes with the sport. His career as a coach covered more than five decades. He trained at the elementary, middle and high school levels. His love for wrestling took him from Minnesota to Florida to Georgia and he was a 25 year member of the Atlanta Takedown Association. For 17 years Mr. Neu guarded the wrestling mat as a high school and USA wrestling official in Florida and Georgia. On April 30, 2017 Mr. Neu was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame under the designation of Lifetime Service to Wrestling for 55 years.

Marilyn Crawford Head: Obituary

Mrs. Marilyn Crawford Head, age 64, of Dahlonega went home to be with the Lord Monday, September 16, 2019 surrounded by her children.
Marilyn was born in Hall County on October 26, 1954 to the late Dennis and Annie Carroll Carder. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband William Mickey Crawford, sister and brother-in-law Betty and Ralph England, sister Evelyn Wilson, and brother and sister-in-law Donald and Ginger Carder.
Marilyn was a retired educator from the Lumpkin County School System. She devoted herself to Special Education. She was a beloved mother to her children and “Nana” to her grandchildren. Marilyn fought a courageous battle with cancer with determination to see her latest grandchild EllaKate. She loved to take trips to the beach. Marilyn will always be remembered for her love and consideration for others.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law Christy and Nicky Jenkins, and Brandi and Chris Poole, all of Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law Randall and Valarie Crawford, Dawsonville; grandchildren Garrett Daniell, Luke Daniell, Izze Poole, Jackson Poole, Macie Cowart, and EllaKate Crawford; brother and sister-in-law Ray and Judy Carder, Gainesville; brother-in-law Junior Wilson, Clermont; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Mr. Joe Grizzle, age 78, of Dahlonega passed away Friday, September 6, 2019.
Joe was born on September 28, 1940 to the late Grady and Elizabeth Garrett Grizzle. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wives Rita Thomasson Grizzle and Shirley Tolbert Grizzle; daughter Lovetta Diane Grizzle; stepdaughter Diane Bridges; brothers John Robert Grizzle, Marvin Grizzle and Calvin Grizzle; sisters Sharon Sue Grizzle, Bertha Chambers and Betty Ruth Grizzle.
Joe worked in the timber industry and also truck farmed. He enjoyed coon hunting, fishing, riding dirt roads and was always laughing and happy. Joe was a friend to all and will truly be missed. He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church in Suches.

Mrs. Carmen Waters Seitz, age 89, of Dahlonega, died Saturday, August 10, 2019.
Mrs. Seitz was born August 25, 1929 in Lumpkin County, the daughter of the late Andrew Robinson and Orphia Melinda Weaver Waters. She was a homemaker and member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. Her parents, husband, Dean Seitz and son, Bob Seitz preceded her in death.
Survivors include: sons; Stanley and Larry Seitz both of Dahlonega, daughter; Joyce Hutcheson, Richmond, KY , sister; Bonnie Waters Milton, Dahlonega, 7 grandchildren, Ellen McMahan, Mindy Whitley, Jessica Cambron, Jason Seitz, Tracy McKinney, Gretchen Gentry, Stephanie Clifford, 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00pm from the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Calvin Ward officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The body will lie-in-state at the church from 1 until 2pm Monday.
The family will meet with friends Sunday from 4 until 8pm at Bernhardt Funeral Home.

Kenneth Michael Reese: Obituary

Mr. Kenneth Michael Reese, age 73, of Dahlonega passed away Friday, July 26, 2019.
Mr. Reese was born in Columbus, GA on September 19, 1945 to the late Leon and Annie Reese. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers Sonny and Jimmy Reese. He was a member of the Dahlonega Presbyterian Church. Mr. Reese studied law and received his law degree at the University of Alabama and then earned his master’s degree in law at Emory University. Mr. Reese taught criminal justice at the University of North Georgia for 22 years. His passion was teaching and next to that was his students. Each one was special to him. Mr. Reese had taught at the University of Alaska and Georgia Southern University. Law was at his heart and his accomplishment as a legal representative on an Indian Reservation in Montana will always be remembered.
He was dearly loved by his wife, children, and close relatives. Mr. Reese was proud of his old movie collection and enjoyed spending time watching them. His favorite pastime was spending days at the beach. Mr. Reese will be deeply missed by his family.
Survivors include his wife Susan Reese, Dahlonega; son Mickey Reese, Dahlonega; daughter Anney Reese, Atlanta; son Bobbey Reese, CA; granddaughter Phoenix Waters; sister and brother-in-law Beverly and Don Stewart, Conyers; sister-in-law Connie Reese, Auburn, AL; sister and brother-in-law Olga and Flip Hoskin, Osteen, FL; sister-in-law Amelia Moore, Montgomery, AL; brother and sister-in-law Hayne and Cindy Hollis; and several close family members including nieces and nephews.
Private graveside services were held at 2:00 PM Sunday, July 28, 2019 at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Mari Turner officiated.

Mr. Bret Wayne Truelove, age 61, of Dahlonega passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2019.
Bret Truelove was born in Hall County on November 30, 1957. He was preceded in death by his father Grady Truelove. Mr. Truelove served his country honorably in United States Army. He was affectionately called “Robo Papa” by his grandchildren. He was a member of Community Chapel Congregational Holiness Church.
Survivors include his wife Annie Truelove, Dahlonega; children Ruby and William Gannon, Baldwin; Candice Truelove, Jefferson; Misty and Tim Burnett, Gainesville; and Amber and Brian McCurry, Dahlonega; mother Lyle Moore, Toccoa; sister Lisa Hall; sister and brother-in-law Laris and Greg Gunn; brothers and sisters-in-laws Joel and Debbie Truelove and Steven and Dominic Thomason; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; several step siblings, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Ralph Eugene Black Sr.
August 05, 1928 – May 26, 2019
Ralph Eugene Black Sr. 90, of Dahlonega left this earthly world to be with the Lord at 4:30 am on May 26, 2019.
Mr. Black was born August 5, 1928 in Atlanta, Ga to Joseph Johnson Black and Mazie Mae (Allison) Black. He was one of seven sons. Mr. Black served 5 years in the Marine Corp as a ranking Staff Sargent, he then attended Southern Technical Institute and Georgia Tech University. On July 3, 1955 in Atlanta, he married his beloved wife Esther Elizabeth House. They were married for 64 years. Together they had two daughters, Pat and Pam, and three sons, Ralph, Philip, and Robert. In addition he is survived by his two brothers, Thomas Black and Marvin Black, thirteen grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
Mr. Blacks entrepreneurial spirit and tireless vision were manifested in various realms of Real Estate Development, General Construction, and as an owner in restaurants and car washes.
Mr. Black is remembered for his kindness, goodness, and his infectious laughter. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and all of God’s creation. He left an incredible legacy of love for his family.
Funeral Service will be held on Thursday May 30, 2019 at Dahlonega United Methodist Church at 10 am. Family will receive friends at 9 am on Thursday at the church until the time of service. Interment will be held at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery where full military honor will be presented. The family has vocalized how meaningful it would be to have your attendance at the graveside and share in this celebration.

In memory of Katy Ruth Wells O’Neal, age 95, of Cumming, Georgia entered into eternal life Wednesday, May 8, 2019. Mrs. O’Neal was born on March 16, 1924, in Royston, Georgia to the late Jesse L. Wells and Cordelia Winn Wells. She was a member of Fayetteville First United Methodist Church and a resident for many years at Gracemont Assisted Living in Cumming, Georgia. Ruth retired from Sears & Roebuck after 20 years in the credit department. She was known for her love for people and her hospitality. Mrs. O’Neal was preceded in death by her husband Ralph J. O’Neal, son, Ronald Wells O’Neal, grandson, Craig Preston O’Neal, brother, J. C. Wells, and sisters, Irene Jones, Sarah Wread, Dot Pece, and Francis Harvey. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Terrie O’Neal, of Cleveland, Georgia; daughter-in-law, Carol Bryant O’Neal, of Cumming, Georgia; former daughter-in-law Alana Cuthbertson O’Neal , of Temple, GA; sisters, Winnie Lowrey, Evelyn Burry, and Charlotte Long; grandchildren, Michael and Gina O’Neal, and Kathryn and Paul Rapalee; two great grandchildren, Stephen Rapalee and Nichole Rapalee, and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. The family will receive friends Saturday, May 11 from 10:00 AM til the funeral service at 12:00 noon in the Dahlonega Chapel of McDonald Family Funeral Homes, 20 Gibson Road, Dahlonega, Georgia 30533.
